Our new exhibit, “America’s Monsters, Superheroes, and Villains: Our Culture at Play,” an exhibition by SuperMonster市City, explores how toys we played with have reflected the country’s changing values and cultural tensions over the past 80 years.
Featured are iconic monsters, superheroes, and villains such as Frankenstein’s monster, The Werewolf, Dracula, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Black Panther, The Joker, Storm, Captain Marvel, as well as Star Trek, Star Wars and more.

On September 4, 1864, the boiler on the steamboat “Washoe” exploded while traveling on the Sacramento River to Sacramento from Rio Vista. The explosion occurred about 35 miles south of Sacramento killing or severely injuring over half of the passengers and crew members (about 200 people were on the Washoe). The “Antelope” steamboat rescued the victims and brought them to Sacramento for treatmen...
